I am so grateful this is taking place. I work for the BC Provincial Government and I can tell you, they really need to pay attention. I came forward with the fact I had anxiety with severe panic attacks and ended up needing some time off (3 months) after working 15 years, and I was punished by having my pay cheque cut off twice as well as my benefit package cancelled and my medical service plan not paid. -
5 cents per text will be paid by Bell towards their Let's Talk campaign. So #letstalkby Stephanie S via twitter 2/12/2013 12:14:18 PM -

Doing my part for #BellLetsTalk. This is a great initiative to help build awareness about mental health issues and breaking down the stigma.by Rose Serafico via twitter 2/12/2013 12:16:08 PM -
That must have been very hard for you. are you are of the new mental health workplace standard that was relesed in January? It provides a framwork and management system for employers to look at their workplace mental health supprots, identify gaps and direct them to resources to fill those gaps. Mental health is everyones business and there is a need for more leadershop and a proactive approach. Have a look at the Mental Health Commission of Canada -

Over the past two years, I have heard from so many people " I want to do more, what else can I do to help eradicate stigma. So this year with the help of mental health experts we put together a tool kit that you can download from our website. It is full of great information and ways you can be a champion for mental health by leading a conversation in your school, workplace or family. Already the toolkit has been downloards over 2500 times. To me that represents the possibility of so many more conversations and that is what reall success is. -
Thanks Mary. Here's a link to that toolkit that Mary referred to: letstalk.bell.ca -

RT @noelleatron: @Bell_LetsTalk - the sense of community being created in just an hour is incredible. #LetsTalk!!!!by samneeb via twitter 2/12/2013 12:25:44 PM -
I really hope we can create more awareness and openness - openness that will result is people having conversations in their family, around the dinner table and most of all, to be a friend to someone with mental illness, a helping hand, listen to their story - this can make the world of difference. -
Today is such an important day......mental illness affects so many....so many who suffer in silence, so many who have been judged, so many who have lost.....Speak up, speak loudly, speak until everyone is listening to you!! I have walked the journey from darkness to light....I send my love to everyone who has fought, who is fighting and who continue to educate......My story is at wordpress.com/frecklefacemum....walking through the darkness, my journey with depression. -

-
If we can spread the word that help is available, recovery is possible and people with mental health issues can and DO lead full, happy and successful lives - just look at Clara Hughes. It really shows that mental illness does not define a person. Givien the stat - one in five - it means everyone is either directly or indirectly affected and yet it is virtually silent and invisible - we need to change this. Let's make stigma stop NOW. -

-
There is a lot more coming up in the weeks, months and years ahead. Progress is being made but much more needs to be done. Most of all, being the mental health do gooder that I am, I hope the time will come when every day is a day we feel it is ok to talk about mental health. -
