Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc says there's been an outpouring of support in the community. The city put out a call for volunteers to open their homes for the police officers who were flying in from across the country to attend the service. The city needed 900 volunteers, but within two hours they had received about 1,300 offers.

Earlier today, Katie Simpson talked to U.S. ambassador Bruce Heyman. He said he was there to extend condolences to the families of the constables on behalf of the U.S. His message to Moncton: " I know that when people are feeling hurt it's good to have a friend. And you have a friend in the United States in these tough times."
-
Heyman said there will be a significant representation from the U.S. at the service, including correctional officers and border control officers. He says: "We're with you in heart, and we're with you in mind. We're here to help you get through these difficult days."

It is impressive the amount of police and peace officers in attendance and the citizens of Moncton. As a former soldier I am embarrassed by the military members who showed up to a Regimental parade in their combat dress. This shows a lack of respect to this event to honour the lost members. God bless the families.

Earlier today Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc said that while there is a deep sense of sadness in the community, there's also a desire to not let this tragedy define the city.
"I think there's a desire to not let this define the community, to take back the positive spirit and the spirit of compassion that we have in this community." -
